Northwestern CTD logo

Quest Academy is excited to renew its partnership with the Northwestern University Center for Talent Development in bringing high-quality, captivating enrichment courses to motivated students in the northwest Chicagoland area.  Taught by expert instructors from Northwestern, courses focus on high-interest topics and are offered in a Saturday/Sunday format on one weekend.

The Accelerated Weekend Experience (AWE) program presents opportunities to delve deeper into a single topic, not typically encountered during a normal school day.  Enrollment is made by application so that advanced learners have the opportunity to learn among a community of like-minded peers.

The Fall AWE experience at Quest Academy will take place on October 30-31 from 9am-2:30pm on the Quest Academy campus.  Three courses will be offered across various grade levels.

Grades 3-4 Volcanoes Inside & Out

Course Information:
This course takes place on two consecutive days during the weekend of October 30-31, 2021.

Since it was formed 4.5 billion years ago, Earth’s surface has been in constant flux due to the presence of hot, churning magma just beneath its rocky crust. In this course, students explore the violent but valuable history of volcanism on Earth. Discover what causes volcanoes to form, and why they tend to cluster in different geographic areas. Students experiment with lava viscosity to model differences in the shape and eruptive nature of volcanoes, study hot spots and model the formation of the Hawaiian islands, discuss the Yellowstone supervolcano, and learn how scientists monitor volcanoes to predict eruptions.

All CTD Courses are assigned to an eligibility tier with designated admission criteria. For more information please visit the CTD Eligibility page. The tuition for this course is $265.
